Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday strongly denied speculation that he attempted to mediate between the DMK and AIADMK following a hung verdict in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters at his Poes Garden residence, he also dismissed any suggestion of envy toward actor-turned-Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Meeting Stalin was personal, not political

Rajinikanth clarified that his post-election meeting with former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was purely personal.

“Stalin sir lost in Kolathur. I have been his friend for 35-40 years. But people wrongly said I tried to broker a deal between two big parties. I am not a person who would stoop so low,” he said.

‘Vijay’s achievement bigger than NTR and MGR’

The actor praised Vijay’s stunning victory over the BJP-led centre and two Dravidian giants.

“Vijay and I have a 20-25 year age gap. How can I envy him? His achievement is better than NTR and MGR. He needs two years to prove himself,” Rajinikanth added.

No political ambitions, only admiration

Reiterating that he is not in politics, Rajinikanth said there was no reason for him to feel jealous of Vijay’s success.

“When I am not in politics, why would I envy him?” he asked.

He also noted that Dravidian parties have ruled Tamil Nadu for 60 years, suggesting that Vijay represents a necessary change.
