New Delhi: The INDIA bloc’s “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has been postponed to Thursday afternoon (October 31, 2026) due to rains in New Delhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Friday (October 30, 2026).
The Announcement
“By consensus we have decided to postpone today’s programme to tomorrow at the same time,” Mr. Gandhi said at a joint press conference with INDIA bloc leaders outside Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s 10, Rajaji Marg residence in Delhi.
The Programme
Earlier, the INDIA bloc was to hold the “public impeachment,” with former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar chairing the proceedings, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge moving the “motion” and Rahul Gandhi making the concluding remarks.
INDIA bloc leaders had met on Thursday (October 29, 2026) to give final shape to the proceedings. Besides Mr. Kharge and Mr. Gandhi, one person from each party was likely to speak at the “public impeachment” of the CEC.
On the November 1 Rally
Speaking about the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally, Mr. Gandhi alleged that the Home Minister is “trying his best to stop people” from coming into Delhi. He said attempts are on to stop people from other States, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Telangana among others.
“Our party people and common people are being stopped. You watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan and you will understand what is happening in the country. There is huge anger and pain because millions are being disenfranchised,” he said.
Mr. Gandhi said anyone who wants to protect the Constitution is invited to join the march and the rally. “Both programmes are about the demolition of democracy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his crew,” he alleged.
The LoP in the Lok Sabha also stated that the November 1 rally is a singular event and not intended as multiple protests.
INDIA Bloc United
Echoing similar sentiments, MP Derek O’Brien, representing Mamata Banerjee, said the INDIA bloc is together in this and will win this together.
