Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that he will play a double role in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana. The actor will star as Lord Rama and also briefly appear as Parshurama, an earlier avatar of Lord Vishnu. This dual role was hinted at in the latest teaser but had not been officially confirmed until now.
While speaking to Collider during the teaser launch event in Los Angeles, Ranbir explained how he approached playing both characters.

“Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama. Playing both roles was a fantastic opportunity. I spent a year preparing for Ramayana to understand who these characters are, their beliefs, and their motives,” Ranbir shared.
He added that understanding the spirituality and emotions of these avatars was key to his performance.
Epic Scale: ‘Nothing Less Than Lord of the Rings’
During the same interview, the actor also spoke about the film’s high-octane sequences, noting that they are “nothing less than Lord of the Rings“ and that they shot “six hours of epic visuals.”

The Legendary Encounter
The teaser depicts the encounter between Rama and Parshurama, which is part of the epic’s storyline. After marrying Sita, Rama meets Parshurama on his way back to Ayodhya. According to the legend, Parshurama challenges Rama to a fight but stops when he realizes Rama is also an avatar of Vishnu.
