New Delhi: Rolls-Royce’s Chief Executive Officer Tufan Erginbilgic met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi to review and discuss plans to significantly expand the British engineering giant’s presence in India. The talks focused on deepening cooperation with the Indian industrial ecosystem and supporting the government’s Viksit Bharat vision.
Focus on Expanding Footprint in India
During the meeting, Erginbilgic shared Rolls-Royce’s strategy to scale up its activities across multiple sectors in India. This includes expanding the company’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) — currently being developed in Bengaluru — into the largest such facility globally, reflecting its commitment to long-term engagement in the country’s engineering and technology sectors.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the company’s interest in expanding operations, noting that India looks forward to Rolls-Royce partnering with the country’s young and innovative workforce to build advanced manufacturing and engineering capabilities. Modi highlighted India’s supportive environment for global investment and innovation.
Collaboration in Manufacturing and Technology
The discussions also covered potential collaboration in complex manufacturing and high-value engineering, with Rolls-Royce expressing interest in strengthening its role in sectors such as aerospace, defence, power systems, and advanced engineering solutions. This aligns with the company’s earlier stated ambition to position India as a key market and strategic hub for its global operations.
As part of its India strategy, Rolls-Royce aims to support India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat goals by increasing local partnerships, investing in skill development, and sourcing more components and services from domestic suppliers.
Strategic Importance of the Meeting
The engagement reflects the strengthening ties between global industry leaders and India’s economic growth trajectory. Rolls-Royce’s move to deepen its presence in India underscores the country’s rising importance as a hub for advanced engineering, innovation, and manufacturing capability — a trend the Modi government has actively encouraged through policy initiatives and investment-friendly reforms.
