Kolkata, India – Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sachin Siwach is ready to take on the Asian Games, armed with hard work, resilience, and the invaluable guidance of his roommate-cum-mentor, Amit Panghal. The 60kg boxer from Mitathal village in Haryana, who matched his fellow villager and namesake to become the second World Youth champion from their village in 2021, has overcome years of struggle, including injuries and questionable verdicts, to finally make his mark at the elite level. “The CWG title has motivated me. I reached the top of the ladder. It’ll be easier from here on,” Sachin told The Hindu.
Sachin’s journey to the CWG gold in Glasgow was a testament to his determination. He navigated a tough draw, defeating opponents from Canada, England, Botswana, Wales, and Namibia, including a spectacular come-from-behind victory in the final against Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo. “Mine was the toughest draw. Since I had beaten the Canadian earlier, I was confident. In the final, it came down to the last round. I was determined to win gold,” he said. The victory has boosted his self-belief ahead of the Asian Games, where he aims to make amends for his quarterfinal finish last time.

Sachin credits much of his growth to the mentorship of Amit Panghal, the World No. 1 boxer who has won big medals. “He was my roommate and training partner (2023-2025). I learned a lot from him — how to rectify mistakes, about diet and rest. He told me about my weak points and strengths, how to block punches and how to move my legs. Amit bhai… I learned everything from him,” Sachin shared. Indian men’s team head coach C.A. Kuttappa has identified areas for improvement, noting that Sachin needs to avoid bending too much and learn to adapt to different ranges. Currently celebrating with his family, Sachin will soon shift his focus to Asian Games preparation.
