Nagoya, Japan – The Indian quartet of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi, and Vithya Ramraj produced an exceptional performance to claim the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Tuesday. Earlier, Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Sathyanarayana, and Harita Bhadra won the bronze medal in the 4x100m mixed relay final after clocking a season-best time of 41.06 seconds.
Neeru Dhanda scripted history by becoming the first Indian shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal in the women’s trap individual event, smashing the continental record in the process. The 26-year-old from Haryana won gold with a score of 28, surpassing the previous Asian record of 24. Dhanda had earlier helped India secure silver in the women’s trap team event alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. The Indian trio finished with a combined total of 328 to take second place behind gold medallists China, who scored 346.
In athletics, Gulveer Singh won the bronze medal in the men’s 5000m, becoming only the second Indian track and field athlete to win three medals in an edition of the Asian Games. The Indian men’s volleyball team continued its winning run, eking out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Qatar to qualify for the quarterfinals.
In boxing, Ankush Panghal ended India’s eight-year wait for a male Asian Games boxing finalist, while Parveen Hooda stormed into the 65kg gold-medal bout with a commanding 5-0 victory over China’s Li Shu. Ankush produced a stirring comeback to out-punch reigning 75kg world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev of Uzbekistan 4-1 and book his place in the 80kg summit clash. Narender Berwal settled for bronze in the +90kg category after losing his semifinal to Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay. Narender’s medal took India’s overall tally at the Asian Games to 48, comprising five gold, 21 silver, and 22 bronze medals.

In tennis, Anirudh Chandrasekar and N. Sriram Balaji cruised into the men’s doubles quarterfinals, while Dhakshineswar Suresh advanced to the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals. The Indian women’s squash team blanked Iran 3-0 to progress to the quarterfinals, and archers Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan advanced to the men’s recurve quarterfinals. Rain continued to disrupt the cricket competition, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh advancing to the men’s semifinals after their quarter-final matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
