New Delhi, July 31: Polling for the Assembly by-elections in Bankipur (Bihar), Datia (Madhya Pradesh), and Manjalpur (Gujarat) concluded peacefully on Thursday, with the Election Commission putting in place elaborate security arrangements across all three constituencies. The bypolls are being closely watched as an important political test ahead of upcoming state elections.
Bypolls Seen as a Key Political Test
The contests witnessed intense campaigning by major political parties, with issues such as development, employment, education, governance, and local infrastructure dominating election rallies. Political observers believe the outcome could offer an early indication of voter sentiment in the three states ahead of larger electoral battles.
Tight Security Ensured Peaceful Polling
The Election Commission deployed Central Armed Police Forces, state police personnel, and election observers at sensitive polling stations to ensure free and fair elections. Polling was conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) along with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems to maintain transparency throughout the process.
Prashant Kishor’s Electoral Debut Draws National Attention
One of the most closely watched contests was in Bankipur, where political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor made his electoral debut. His candidature attracted nationwide attention, with political analysts describing the constituency as one of the most significant battlegrounds of the bypolls.
Voter Participation Recorded Across Three States
Election officials reported peaceful polling, with voters turning out across all three constituencies. Special arrangements were made for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and first-time voters, including wheelchair assistance, separate queues, and volunteers at polling stations.
Among the three seats, Datia recorded the highest voter turnout at 71.44%, while Bankipur and Manjalpur witnessed comparatively lower participation.
Parties Express Confidence Ahead of Results
Leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties expressed confidence after polling concluded. Party workers remained active throughout the day in assisting voters while complying with Election Commission guidelines. Political analysts say that although bypolls do not always predict future election outcomes, they often provide valuable insights into public opinion, campaign effectiveness, and the strength of regional parties.
Counting of Votes on August 3
The Election Commission has scheduled the counting of votes for August 3, after which official results for all three Assembly constituencies will be announced. Political parties, analysts, and citizens will now closely watch the outcome, particularly in the high-profile Bankipur contest.
