New Delhi, India – The Congress party on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over rising prices and economic hardship, saying “Achche Din” (good days) continue to wreck the common person’s budget. Party leaders cited the recent surge in sugar prices, which have risen by nearly 40% in some states, and other essential commodities, as evidence of the government’s failure to control inflation. The Opposition demanded immediate intervention to ease the financial burden on households ahead of the festive season.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said the government’s claims of economic growth were hollow, pointing to the impact of rising prices on the middle class and the poor. “The Modi government talks about ‘Achche Din,’ but the common person’s budget is being wrecked by skyrocketing prices of sugar, vegetables, and other daily essentials. This is not the ‘good days’ they promised; it is a nightmare for millions of families,” Khera said. The party also criticized the government’s decision to allow sugar imports, calling it a “belated and insufficient” step.

The Congress also questioned the government’s handling of the sugar price crisis, accusing it of favoring big traders and the ethanol industry over the needs of ordinary consumers. “Instead of acting decisively, the government is watching the situation helplessly. The festive season is approaching, and families are struggling to make ends meet. This is the reality of ‘Achche Din’ under the Modi government,” Khera added. The party has called for a comprehensive plan to stabilize prices and protect consumers from the impact of inflation.
