One Indian killed in Strait of Hormuz attack as two UAE tankers came under attack, leaving several crew members injured.
Eight others were injured after two UAE-flagged oil tankers came under an Iranian missile attack in the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.
The vessels, Mombasa and Al Bahiya, were targeted in the strike, with Mombasa sustaining a hit. As per the UAE authorities, the attack claimed the life of one Indian crew member and left eight others injured. Four of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. Among those injured, six are Indian nationals and two are Ukrainian nationals.
The missile strike also caused significant damage to both tankers and triggered a fire onboard. Authorities confirmed that the blaze has since been brought under control. Emergency response teams secured the vessels while officials continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
UAE Condemns Attack and Reserves Right to Respond
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, the UAE Ministry of Defence strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a blatant violation of international law that poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The ministry said the UAE reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its citizens and residents, and safeguard its national interests in response to the escalation.
Ministry Urges Public to Rely on Official Information
The ministry added that it remains on high alert and is fully prepared to respond to any potential threats. It said all necessary measures are being taken to counter any attempt to undermine the country’s security and stability, while urging the public to rely only on information released through official sources.
