New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has publicly acknowledged the influence of his wife Sunita Kapoor on his performance in the upcoming film Subedaar, saying that his real-life relationship helped him understand the emotional conflict between duty, personal life and love depicted in the movie.
As he prepares for the release of the action-drama, Anil Kapoor told The Indian Express that rather than drawing from his relationship with his children, he looked to his decades-long marriage for inspiration. He said that the love he shares with Sunita and her understanding of his passion for work helped shape the emotional core of his character in Subedaar.
“In Subedaar, I think I dug into my relationship with my wife… The love which I have for my wife, and the love for my work — that is where the emotional conflict lies,” Kapoor said, explaining how the story’s themes reflect everyday challenges of balancing personal relationships with professional commitment.
He further highlighted that many people experience similar situations in their own lives — wanting to be a good spouse, parent and professional all at once — and that Sunita’s support and understanding of his career helped him bring authenticity to the role.
Anil and Sunita Kapoor have been married since May 19, 1984, and the couple often speak fondly of their enduring partnership. Their children include actress Sonam Kapoor, producer Rhea Kapoor and actor Harshvardhan Kapoor.
Directed by Suresh Triveni, Subedaar features Anil Kapoor in the titular role and is set to premiere on Prime Video on March 5, 2026 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film also stars Radhikka Madan, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik and Mona Singh in key roles.
