MAHARAJGANJ: A felicitation programme at the BJP office in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district descended into chaos on Wednesday after a woman stormed the venue, accused a party functionary of cheating her of lakhs of rupees, and physically assaulted him in front of stunned party workers.

The incident, which was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media, has brought a financial dispute within the party ranks into sharp public focus.

Eyewitnesses reported that the woman slapped the leader and attempted to drag him out by his collar, triggering panic. Dozens of people rushed to intervene, but the situation quickly escalated into a heated confrontation, with reports of scuffles and even slippers being used.

The Allegation

The woman alleged that she had handed over approximately Rs 4.5 lakh to the party functionary in the name of LIC deposits. She claimed that the money was never deposited and was instead misappropriated. She stated that she had been demanding its return for a long time, and decided to confront him publicly at the party event.

Police and Party Reaction

Police arrived at the spot after being alerted and managed to bring the situation under control. The woman and others involved were escorted out, allowing the programme to resume after nearly an hour of disruption.

Former district president and ex-candidate Sameer Tripathi acknowledged the incident, stating, “During the felicitation of nominated councillors and mandal presidents, a clash arose over money transactions. Had we been informed earlier, the situation could have been avoided. Both belong to the BJP. Efforts will be made to resolve the matter soon.”
