New Delhi, India – The death toll from a five-storey building collapse in South West Delhi’s Satya Niketan has risen to six, with 11 people rescued so far, Delhi Police said on Monday. One more person was rescued during overnight operations but was brought dead, bringing the total fatalities to six. The building, which housed a boys’ paying guest accommodation near Delhi University’s South Campus, collapsed around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday while repair work was underway.
Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, have been carrying out rescue operations through the night. An FIR under Sections 105, 290, and 125(a) BNS has been registered against the building owner, Hariram Bansal, and others. The building, named Hostel Daze, is at least 50 years old and comprises a basement plus five more floors.

Efforts are ongoing to trace persons allegedly connected to the incident, police said. The collapse has raised concerns about the safety of aging structures in the city, particularly those used as hostels and PG accommodations. Rescue teams continue to work at the site, and authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the tragedy. Further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
