IndiGo has announced revised fuel surcharges for both domestic and international flights, responding to the sharp hike in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. The revised charges will be applicable from 12:01 a.m. on April 2, 2026.
The airline had already been levying fuel charges ranging from ₹425 to ₹2,300 since March 14. The latest revision rationalizes domestic charges while significantly increasing international surcharges.
Domestic Fuel Charges: Rationalized and Reduced for Shorter Routes
| Shorter routes | As low as ₹275 |
| Longer domestic routes | Up to ₹950 |
Domestic surcharges have been rationalised and now range between ₹275 and ₹950 depending on distance, effectively reducing the burden on shorter routes compared to the previous range of ₹425 to ₹2,300.
International Fuel Charges: Steep Increase for Long-Haul Routes
| Short-haul international | ₹900 – ₹2,300 | Increased proportionally |
| Long-haul (e.g., Europe) | Up to ₹2,300 | Up to ₹10,000 |
International fuel charges have seen a steep increase. Previously ranging from ₹900 to ₹2,300 per sector depending on region, the revised charges now go up to as high as ₹10,000 for long-haul routes such as Europe, reflecting the sharp rise in ATF prices for international operations.
Why the Revision?
| Cause | Sharp hike in ATF prices due to West Asia conflict |
| Impact | Significant increase in airline operating costs |
| ATF Price Increase (International) | More than doubled in the last month |
“For international operations, ATF prices have more than doubled in the last month, consequentially driving a significant impact on the airline’s operating costs on these routes,” the airline said in a statement.
Consumer Impact
| Domestic Passengers | Lower charges on shorter routes |
| International Passengers | Significant increase, especially for long-haul |
| Effective Date | April 2, 2026 (12:01 am) |
Although fully offsetting the fuel price increase would require substantial fare revisions, IndiGo said it has passed on a relatively smaller amount to customers, keeping in mind the consequential burden on them.
“With this clarity, IndiGo has also recalibrated its domestic fuel charge to vary by different travel distances,” the airline said.
