The teaser of ‘Pritam and Pedro’, Rajkumar Hirani’s OTT debut, was unveiled on Thursday, promising a quirky blend of humour, warmth, and an intriguing mystery.
The 90-second teaser introduces viewers to two completely different men – one old-school, one tech-savvy – standing beside an abandoned ATM on a deserted beach. The series will stream on JioHotstar from July 3, 2026.
What the teaser reveals
The teaser opens with Pedro (Arshad Warsi), a seasoned investigator with a fedora and a cynical smirk, saying: “Kabhi kabhi case solve karne ke liye tumhe system se bahar sochna padta hai.”
Cut to Pritam (Vir Hirani), a young computer geek in oversized glasses, typing furiously on a laptop: “Ya phir system ke andar. Woh zyada accurate hai.”
What follows is a montage of suspicious characters, a coastal town, a police station, and that same abandoned ATM – but now surrounded by yellow crime scene tape.
The tagline appears: “Ek ATM. Do anokhe aadmi. Aur ek raaz.”
The unlikeliest of duos
‘Pritam and Pedro’ revolves around two diametrically opposite individuals forced to come together under unusual circumstances.
Pedro (Arshad Warsi) – A veteran investigator who believes in solving cases with old-school methods: instinct, experience, contacts, and a lot of tea.
Pritam (Vir Hirani) – A young computer geek who approaches problems with technology, algorithms, data analysis, and a sharp, modern mindset.
One analog, one digital. One cynical, one idealistic. Both completely out of their depth.
Hirani’s signature style meets a mystery
The teaser confirms that the series carries Rajkumar Hirani’s trademark blend – emotional storytelling layered with humour and heart, now wrapped inside a small-town mystery.
Unlike Hirani’s films which often tackled large social themes (‘3 Idiots’ on education, ‘PK’ on religion, ‘Sanju’ on celebrity), ‘Pritam and Pedro’ appears more intimate – a character-driven story set in a coastal community.
The mystery element is new for Hirani. The abandoned ATM, the beach setting, and the hints of a cybercrime thriller suggest a departure from his usual territory.
Arshad Warsi reunites with Hirani
The teaser marks the first on-screen collaboration between Arshad Warsi and Rajkumar Hirani since ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ (2006) – nearly two decades ago.
Warsi, who played Circuit in the ‘Munnabhai’ series, brings his signature comic timing and world-weary charm to Pedro. His character seems to carry the weight of unsolved cases and personal regret.
Fans have long wanted Warsi and Hirani to work together again. ‘Pritam and Pedro’ finally delivers that reunion.
Vir Hirani’s acting debut
The teaser introduces Vir Hirani, the filmmaker’s son, as Pritam. While he appears briefly in the teaser, his character’s contrast with Warsi’s Pedro is immediately clear.
Speaking earlier about his son’s debut, Rajkumar Hirani said: “Vir has grown up on film sets. But I never pushed him into acting. He auditioned like everyone else. He earned the role.”
Avinash Arun’s direction
While Hirani is the creator and producer, the series is directed by Avinash Arun, known for his work on ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘School of Lies’, and the acclaimed films ‘Killa’ and ‘Three of Us’.
Avinash Arun’s grounded, atmospheric style – often set in small towns and coastal landscapes – complements Hirani’s emotional storytelling. The teaser’s visuals confirm this synergy: the sea, the sand, the faded paint of the beachside ATM – all shot with a natural, unhurried eye.
The cybercrime angle
While the teaser hints at mystery, the series reportedly explores the darker side of online threats – cyber fraud, digital manipulation, and anonymous crime – but through Hirani’s humanistic lens.
The abandoned ATM, presumably containing something more than cash, becomes the entry point into a larger conspiracy. Pedro and Pritam must overcome their differences to solve a case that neither could crack alone.
Supporting cast
The teaser offers glimpses of the supporting cast:
- Sanjay Mishra as a bemused local police officer
- Seema Pahwa as a sharp-tongued beach shack owner
- Zakir Hussain as a mysterious stranger with an agenda
- Irrfan Khan’s son Babil makes a brief appearance in what seems to be an extended cameo
Social media reaction
Within hours of the teaser dropping, #PritamAndPedro trended on X (formerly Twitter) with over 200,000 posts.
Fans particularly loved the Warsi-Hirani reunion. One user wrote: “Circuit is back! Not as Munna’s sidekick, but as his own man. So excited.”
Another commented: “Hirani + Avinash Arun is an unexpected but brilliant combo. The teaser looks so fresh.”
Release plans
‘Pritam and Pedro’ will release all episodes simultaneously on JioHotstar on July 3, 2026.
The platform is planning a grand premiere event in Mumbai on July 1, attended by the cast and crew.
Final thoughts from the teaser
The teaser ends with Pedro and Pritam sitting on the beach at sunset. Pedro lights a cigarette. Pritam opens his laptop.
Pedro: “Tujhe lagta hai tera machine sab kuch solve kar sakta hai?”
Pritam: “Machine nahi. Data. Facts. Evidence.”
Pedro (smiling): “Aur uss ATM ke andar kya hai, woh bhi tera data bata sakta hai?”
Pritam closes his laptop. Silence.
Pritam: “Nahi. Woh toh humein saath jaakar dekhna padega.”
