State Orders Investigation as Kidney Failure Cases and Negligence Allegations Spark Healthcare Concerns
Jaipur, July 28, 2026: Rajasthan’s public healthcare system has come under intense scrutiny after at least 18 women died in government hospitals following childbirth or caesarean section-related complications since May 2026. The deaths, reported across multiple districts, have raised serious concerns over maternal healthcare standards, infection control protocols, and patient safety in the state’s government-run medical facilities.
According to official information, seven other women remain on dialysis after developing acute kidney failure following childbirth or surgical procedures. The alarming trend has prompted the Rajasthan government to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the incidents, while grieving families have alleged medical negligence and demanded accountability.
Deaths Reported Across Multiple Districts
The maternal deaths have been reported from several government hospitals in districts including Kota, Bhilwara, Banswara, Bikaner and Jodhpur. In one of the most concerning phases of the crisis, nine women reportedly died within six days in Bhilwara and Banswara, bringing renewed attention to the state’s maternal healthcare system.
Earlier incidents in Kota had already raised concerns after multiple women developed severe kidney and urinary complications following caesarean section surgeries. Several patients required dialysis, while families accused hospitals of delayed treatment and poor post-operative care.

In response to the growing public concern, Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar announced a detailed investigation into the maternal deaths. Expert committees have been constituted to examine hospital records, surgical procedures, infection control practices, and post-operative treatment protocols to determine the exact causes behind the fatalities.
Officials have stated that the investigation will assess whether the deaths resulted from hospital-acquired infections, procedural lapses, delayed referrals, or other medical complications.
