Mumbai, India – The first look of Bollywood star Manoj Bajpayee as Mahatma Gandhi in filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming historical drama was unveiled on Sunday. The film, produced by Anubhav Sinha under the A Benaras Mediaworks production banner, features Bajpayee in a near-unrecognisable transformation as Gandhi. The film is based on a crucial, lesser-known 21-day chapter of India’s independence history, focusing on Gandhi’s unexpected choice to walk away from Delhi as the nation stepped into freedom.

In an earlier statement, Sudhir said, “This new film focuses on the 21 days in the life of Mahatma Gandhi during India’s independence. At a time when the nation was stepping into freedom, and Delhi was becoming the center of power, Gandhi made an unexpected choice: he chose to walk away. But by walking away, he did not retreat. He reinvented himself. While history books record the surface events of that era, this story explores what lay beneath that famous choice and will depict the personal journey of a leader redefining his path.”

The untitled film also features Saurabh Shukla in a lead role and is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Narendra Hirawat under A Benaras Mediaworks Production, presented by NH Studioz. Anubhav Sinha is known for directing films like MulkArticle 15, and Thappad, while Sudhir Mishra is a veteran director whose acclaimed works include Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Dharavi. The duo previously collaborated on 2023’s Afwaah. The first look has generated significant buzz, with audiences eager to see Bajpayee’s portrayal of the iconic leader in this untold chapter of Indian history.
