After staging its first major offline protest at the historic Jantar Mantar in the national capital, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday thanked the Delhi Police for extending “all possible cooperation” to ensure the peaceful conduct of the demonstration .
The protest, which demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak and alleged irregularities in the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, marked a significant transition for the movement from digital outrage to street politics .
A Gesture of Gratitude
Following the peaceful conclusion of the protest, CJP’s newly named spokesperson, Saurav Das, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express the party’s appreciation for the police force.
“We would again like to thank the Delhi Police for extending all possible cooperation for this democratic protest! They quickly detained anti-social elements. They ensured things went smoothly,” Das posted .
The CJP had set the tone for cooperation hours before the event began. In a unique move, founder Abhijeet Dipke, who was given permission to protest at the airport, had instructed supporters to greet security personnel with flowers as a gesture of “compassion and gratitude” .
“T हैंThey ensured things went smoothly.hey are not in contact with me,” he said.
Police detain 6 to prevent ‘Confrontation’
While the protest largely remained peaceful, the Delhi Police confirmed that they had to take preemptive action to maintain law and order. Officials detained six individuals based on intelligence inputs that they were allegedly attempting to disrupt the demonstration near the protest site .
“A confrontation between two groups was possible. They were taken into preventive custody to prevent a major law-and-order disruption,” a senior police officer told PTI .
Clarification on FIR Reports
Amid the protests, social media was rife with rumors that the Delhi Police had registered an First Information Report (FIR) against the protesters gathering at Jantar Mantar.
The Delhi Police swiftly issued a clarification on their official social media handle, categorically denying these claims.
“Certain social media posts and news reports are claiming that Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the protesters at Jantar Mantar. It is clarified that no such FIR has been registered,” the Delhi Police posted .
Citizens were urged not to believe or circulate unverified information .
