Actress Rashami Desai has become the latest celebrity to weigh in on the controversy surrounding the viral “₹370 biryani” remark, delivering a sharp critique of both the audience member who made the comments and the comedian who gave him a platform.
In an Instagram Story, Desai shared a post by content creator Praful Garg and did not hold back in her assessment of the incident, calling out comedian Pranit More and the audience member Himanshu Jangra for their roles in the now-viral exchange .
‘This is not comedy’
Desai began by questioning whether the interaction qualified as comedy at all, arguing that it lacked creativity and substance.
“Praful bhai, this is not a Comedy. It is a normal talking conversation and it has no content. They start communicating when they don’t have content or creativity,” she wrote .
She then turned her attention to More directly, questioning his credentials as a performer. “Pranit is not an artist. He’s also not a comedian,” she stated .
‘His shows should also be stopped’
Desai noted that Jangra, the audience member who made the remarks, had reportedly lost his job as a result of the controversy. The 23-year-old web developer was terminated by his Gurugram-based employer, Starvik Design, after the clip went viral .
The actress argued that if Jangra faced consequences, Pranit More should face accountability as well. “And this boy has lost his job. Also Pranit ke bhi shows band hone chahiye,” she wrote, demanding that More’s shows be stopped .
She ended her post with the hashtags “#shameonpranit” and “SHAME ON GURGAON BOY” .
Fraternity fallout
Desai expressed concern that incidents such as this one bring unnecessary disrepute to the comedy fraternity and make life difficult for genuine artists.
“The fraternity will get troll for unnecessarily, this is really bad for real artist,” she wrote .
Her comments reflect a growing unease within the entertainment industry about how controversial viral moments reflect on performers and content creators as a whole.
The controversy explained
The row erupted after a video clip from a stand-up show by Pranit More went viral on social media. In the clip, audience member Himanshu Jangra, a 23-year-old web developer from Gurgaon, described an experience where he paid ₹370 for a plate of chicken biryani during a date and subsequently expected physical intimacy in return .
“Maine kaha 370 rupay lage hain, main wasool toh karunga,” Jangra said in the clip, which was widely condemned for normalising a troubling attitude toward consent .
Pranit More was also criticised for laughing during the exchange and for sharing the clip on his social media platforms. He later issued an apology, stating that the comments made by the audience member did not reflect his views and that he should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on .
Wider backlash
Several other public figures have also spoken out against the incident. Influencer Kusha Kapila called on women to openly criticise offensive comedy, while model Sakshi Shivdasani described the remarks as “cheap and disgusting” .
Meanwhile, Pranit More’s main Instagram account, which had approximately 3.8 million followers, was deactivated amid the backlash . However, his second account, @maharashtrianbhau, remains active .
Himanshu Jangra, who was identified as an employee of Starvik Design, was terminated from his position after the clip went viral, with the company’s founder stating that the controversy had begun affecting the workplace environment .
